Julián was born 33 years ago in Bogotá, Colombia, with a condition known as Down’s Syndrome. Doctors told his family that he was going to be a “little angel” and that they would have to take care of him for the rest of his life. Although it is true that Julián radiates a special energy, he is far from that frail person the doctors described. Julián has had a regular education in Colombia which he then continued in Canada. He has been playing drums and composing his own songs since he was 12 years old. He’s been working with MLSE in Toronto and traveling across the province talking about his life and his fight in support of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities. This Colombian-Canadian is an artist, activist, and immigrant who has deeply enriched our society.

THE FILMMAKER
Through his company, Tulipan Productions, Julián writes, films, and edits his movies. Some have been presented at festivals such as Picture This (Calgary), and Sit Down Shut Up and Watch Film & New Media Festival (Australia). Despite creating films in a variety of themes, Julián prefers working on historical films.
THE TRAVELING VLOGGER
Whether it’s to visit his sister in California or his extended family in Colombia, Julián loves to travel the world. In each place, he shoots images and adds reflections that he then shares on his travel vlog. He’s now thinking of creating a television series that features his adventures!
THE MUSICIAN
Julián started playing drums at an early age. He eventually learned to play the guitar and even compose his own songs. Julián has cooperated with many artists along the way; among them Carlos Copabán in Colombia, and now Joe Kelly in Canada. Julián has performed live with bands and, on occasion, as a one-man band.
THE ACTIVIST
Julián is an ambassador for inclusivity in Canada, Colombia, and even New York, where he spoke at the United Nations. He talks about his experiences and how important it is to include people with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of our society. This is extremely meaningful to Julián.
